Lord Ayyappan – Story & Significance

Lord Ayyappan, also known as Hariharaputra, is the son of Lord Shiva and Mohini (an avatar of Vishnu). Worshipped mainly in South India, especially at Sabarimala Temple in Kerala, Ayyappan embodies the union of divine powers, symbolizing harmony, righteousness, and spiritual strength.

Seated in a yogic posture with a radiant smile, Ayyappan is revered as the protector of dharma and the giver of courage, discipline, and prosperity. Devotees believe that worshipping him removes obstacles, instills inner strength, and grants spiritual awakening.

Pilgrims to Sabarimala observe strict vratham (austerities and fasting) before undertaking the sacred journey, reflecting Ayyappan’s message of purity, devotion, and self-control.
